If you desire to separate and put hatred between two persons, write this verse on a Bhuj stone, then write :“(Allah said:) ”We have put hatred and animosity between them until the day of Resurrection”Surah Maeda Ayat no 64.

And below the picture write the sentence: may the separation occur between Fulan (so and so) and Fulan. Write the names of the two persons instead of Fulan, make a Ta’wiz (Tameemah) of it and bury it between two old graves , but don’t do it for people not deserving this, as it will be a sin.”

Surah An-Nas was revealed in Madinah and it has 6 verses. Narrated by Aishah (RD): Whenever Allah’s Messenger (saw) went to bed, he used to recite Surah AL- Ikhlas (112), Surah AL-Falkaq (113) and surah An-Nas (114), and then blow on his palms and pass them over his face and those parts of its body that his hands could reach. And when he fell ill, he used to order me to do like that for him. [Sahih Al Bukhari7/5758 (O.P.644)]

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said that whoever recites this Surah in his house every night, will be kept safe from Jinnaat and the evil designs of Shaitan. If this Surah is put around the neck of a person as a talisman, he will be protected from evil and magic spells. If recited 101 times and bellow on any part of the body that is paining, the pain will be relieved.

Transliteration:Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Qul 'a-'uuzu bi Rabbin Naas,. Malikin-Naas,. 'Illahin-Naas,. Min-sharril Waswaasil khan Nass,. 'Allazii yuwas-wisu fii suduurin Naasi,. Minal-Jinnati wan Naas.
Translation: In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind, From the evil of the retreating whisperer - Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind - From among the jinn and mankind."

This Surah was revealed in Madinah and it has 5 verses. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that whoever recites Surah Al-Falaq in the month of Ramadan in any of his prayers, it is as if he has fasted in Makkah and he will get the reward for performing Hajj and ‘Umra. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said that in the prayer of Shafa’a (in Salaatul-layl) one should recite Surah al-Falaq in the first rak’aat and an-Naas in the second.

Reciting of this Surah in compulsory prayers keeps a person safe from poverty and Sustenance comes towards him. His death will not be of a sudden and terrifying nature. This Surah has excelent cure for magic effects, pain in the eyes and should be recited before blowing gently into the eyes for relief from pain. Keeping this Surah in a talisman around one’s neck acts as a protection from the ‘evil eye’. This Surah remove magic effects very quickly.

Transliteration:Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.Qul 'a-'uuzu bi-Rabbil-Falaq,. Min-sharri maa khalaq;. Wa min-sharri gaasiqin 'izaa waqab,. Wa min-sharrin Naffaasaati fil 'uqad,. Wa min-sharri haasidin 'izaa hasad.
Translation: In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, From the evil of that which He created, And from the evil of darkness when it settles, And from the evil of the blowers in knots, And from the evil of an envier when he envies."

Surat Al-Kafirun Advantages and Benefits

Surah Al-Kafirun is ‘makki’ and has 6 verses. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that reciting this Surah carries the reward of reciting a quarter of the Holy Qur’an. The recitation of this Surah drives away evil and keeps one safe from Shirk. It is also among the five Surahs that have been recommended to be recited during a journey, the others being Surah Al-Fatihah, An-Nasr, Al-Falaq and An-Naas. Reciting Surah Al-Kafirun and at-Tawhid in compulsory prayers is a means for forgiveness of sins for the reciter, his parents and his children. If a person dies after reciting this Surah, it is as if he has died a martyr. Recitation of this Surah before sleeping keeps one safe the whole night.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, ‘Recite surah al Kafirun and then go to sleep after coming to its end, for it is a clearance from shirk’If recited on a treasure, it remains safe. If a person has many creditors, recitation of this Surah will help clear his debts. If recited by a person in fear, this Surah brings him to safety; if recited by a hungry person, it helps in his finding sustenance; if recited by a thirsty person, his thirst will be quenched.

Transliteration:Bismillahir Rahmanir RahimQul ya ayyuha al-kafiruna. La a'budu ma ta'buduna. Wa-la ''antum 'abiduna ma a'budu. Wa-la ''ana 'abidunm ma 'abadtum. Wa-la ''antum 'abiduna ma a'budu. Lakum dinukum wa-liya dini.

Translation:In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.Say, "O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship. Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship. Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."

Salaat-e-Chashat (Doha) with a khass wird of the acceptance of all Duas
Time for Salatul Chaast (also known as Doha Salaat): 9:00 to 11:30 but it varies according to season.
[When the sun has risen high and there is heat in its rays, the performance of 2,4,6,8 or 12 rakaats is called Namaaz-e-Chaast]

The Traditions says that the performance of 2 rakaats wipes away all ones sins. There are 360 joints in our body and to pay Sadaqah for each is Wajib (obligatory) The 2 rakaaats is enough to pay all the Sadakah. Performance of 4 rakaats places the performer's name among the Abids and is the Sunnat of Saliheen and promise the performer protection until the evening. The performer of 6 rakaats is relieved of his day's worries. Performance of 8 rakaats places his name among the Parhezgaars and the performer of 12 rakaats ensures a Golden Mansion for himself in Paradise. (Ref : Tirmizi, Ibne Majah, Ahmad).

Method:

Read 2 rakaats Nafil with the niyyat (intention) of Chaast. In the last sajdah (prostration) of the last rakaat, after Subhaana Rabbiyal Alaa read 41 times Ya Wahhabu. You will get relief from worries and tensions; miraculously you'll get extreme peace. When performed on thursday, after salaam, without talking to anyone read 500 times Ya Samiu with 11 times Darood Shareef before and after, then ask as many heartfelt duas, Inshah Allah! your duas will be accepted with merits. This has been tried with success.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note:
All nafil salaat must be read in a cycle of two by two rakaat.
Niyyat: Nawaytu an Usalliya Lillaahi Ta'ala Rakaatayni Salaata Naflil Chaast Mutawajjihaanillah Jihaatil Kaabatish Sharifatee. Allahu Akbar

Please , If you are reading it normally (whether 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12), you don't need to recite the 41 times Ya Wahhabu as mentioned above but if you wanna do it , you can, but Ya Sami'u 500 times should only be recited on Thursday .

HADIS:

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ISIM-E-AZAM AND BISMILLAH IS THE SAME AS THE BLACK AND WHITE OF THE EYE.

This the most powerful wazifa.Nothing is more powerful than this. Anyone who will do this wazifa will come under direct supervision of Allah himself. He will never ever and i mean never ever have any problems in his life. He will be shown the right way by Allah and he will never go astray in his Din.

He will see the future in his dreams and Allah will tell him every thing that is about to happen with him before hand. He will never have to ask any one for anything. what ever he needs Allah will provide. What ever he wants is Allah's responsibility personally.

No enemy will be able to harm him. No black magic will work on him. Everyone who will see him will respect him. Basically what ever you want will be provided. You will wish in your heart for some thing and it will happen. Angels of Bismillah will start to stay with you 24 hours a day on orders of Allah. After some time they will start to advise you on what to do and what not to do. You will hear them in your heart as they will put thoughts in your mind. But you will not see them.
It will also protect you from yourself. If what you want is not good for you, Bismillah will not let you do it. You cannot use it to marry any particular person as wazifas to marry a person are forbidden and haram in islam. You can only ask Allah to marry you to a suitable person and not to a person of your choice.

Bismillah contains names of Our Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) (sallal la ho alai hey wa sallam), first four Caliphs, Sayyeda Fatima Radi Allahu anhu Sayyedina Imam Hasan and Sayyedina Imam Hussain. It also contains the whole of Quran in it.

This wazifa is the king of all wazifas.

It is a forever wazifa. Meaning you must read it everyday at a set time if possible. If you cannot do it at a set time just read it when ever you can. You can also do it half one time and half another time. Women  should continue reading it even during periods (special days). If you miss your wazifa one day for some reason please read it double the next day. You will see its effects after one week. Do not tell your dreams to any one and do not tell people that you are doing this wazifa.
Send all savab/Hasana of this wazifa everyday to Our Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) (sallal la ho alai hey wa aale hi sallam), Sayyedina Maulana Jalal Ud Din Rumi (Rehmatullah Alaih) and all Ummat. Do a dua after sending the savab. Wazifa will not work if you dont do that.

Darood/Salavat 11 times

Bismillah hir rehman nir rehim 1000 times

Darood/Salavat 11 times

Then everyday do a dua for your hajat/wish if you want, though you will not need to do it. Just thinking about your problem is enough. Watch how it will change your life completely.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NIYET/INTENTION FOR THIS WAZIFA IS ALLAHS RAZA AND NOT YOUR PROBLEMS.

IF YOU ARE DOING THIS WAZIFA YOU DO NOT NEED ANY OTHER WAZIFA. IF YOU START THIS WAZIFA YOU SHOULD STOP READING ALL OTHER WAZIFAS FOR HAJAT.
YOU CAN ONLY DO OTHER WAZIFAS IF YOUR INTENTION IS FOR ALLAHS RAZA AND NOT FOR ANY HAJAT.

PLEASE BE PATIENT IN DOING THIS WAZIFA. YOUR HAJAT/WISH WILL HAPPEN ONLY IF IT IS GOOD FOR YOU. DO NOT ASK ALLAH FOR HARAM THINGS.
IF YOU CAN NOT DO THIS WAZIFA FOREVER, YOU MAY STOP IT AT ANYTIME WITHOUT ANY BAD EFFECTS.

YOU CAN ALSO READ IT UNTIL YOUR WISH/HAJAT IS GRANTED AND THEN STOP DOING IT.

SAME TIME AND PLACE IS NOT NECESSARY FOR THIS WAZIFA BUT IF YOU CAN READ IT AT THE SAME PLACE AND AT THE SAME TIME, IT WILL WORK QUICKLY.

NO PERMISSION IS REQUIRED TO DO THIS WAZIFA.

Nabeez: Favourite Drink of the Holy Prophet (pbuh)

$

'Nabeez' was one of the favourite drinks of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). In his time, it was typically made with dates and water.

It is an alkalizing tonic, having the tendency to remove acidity from the stomach and digestive system and it also helps to remove other metabolic wastes from the body. It improves digestion as it's high in soluble fibre and it strengthens the memory. It assists the spleen function, liver, throat, chest and prostate, and so is particularly good for men. Nabeez will also benefit patients of Arthritis and elevated levels of Uric Acid (gout).

Apparently, it is nothing but soaking the dates (or raisins/sultanas) overnight and drinking the water in which they were soaked in the morning insha'Allah, but when it is embraced and honoured as one of the great Sunnah's of Nabi (pbuh), it pulls down Shifa, blessings and mercy from the treasures of Allah Tala.

'Ajwa' are the best variety to use if making Nabeez with stoneless dates and 'Manaqqa' is the best variety of raisins for making it with raisins, but black raisins can also be used, those colours were not Created without reason, so it is always preferable to keep changing our diets with new colours and and trying new varieties.

After Isha prayer, soak around 100 grams of dates or raisins in 1 litre of drinkable / healthy water and keep the utensil covered with a plate. Ensure the water is kept cool.

Next morning after Fajr, you can drink the water and eat the soaked fruit as was the traditional method, or just use your blender (water + soaked fruit) to obtain a beautiful cloudy Nabeez. This is the method I have used for the smoothie recipe below.

And if you soak the fruit in morning, drink it in the evening. Nabeez should be consumed within 12 hours of soaking time, but if it is kept air tight inside the refrigerator, it will not spoil for 2-3 days insha'Allah. Serve cold Nabeez to your guests instead of tea, coffee, juices and sodas, and explain to them the beauty of the Sunnah of our beloved Mesenger (pbuh) and the superb health benefits.

Never mix raisins and dates together; their Nabeez should be made separately.

Nabeez and Pomegranate smoothie.

Ingredients (serves 2)

50g dates, or raisins, soaked in 100ml fresh clean water. This time I used sultanas
250ml pomegranate juice.
50g frozen blueberries.
50g frozen strawberries.
50g frozen pomegranate kernels.
Blend all ingredients in a blender until the mixture becomes smooth and enjoy in the morning for breakfast or serve to your family and friends in hot weather.

Forgetfulness and Weak Memory

$
0
0
The authentic prophetic traditions report that a man complained to Allah’s Blessed Messenger (pbuh) about forgetfulness, and was advised, “Use frankincense, for it invigorates the heart with courage and it is a remedy for forgetfulness.”

Frankincense (‘Lubbaan’ in Arabic) is an aromatic resin produced by a certain genus of trees grown mainly in Yemen, Somalia and Oman, and is traditionally used in perfumes, incense and as a medicine. The resin is tapped and allowed to harden, before being powdered. It is most commonly very light yellow in colour and is widely accepted as one of the most effective medicines for forgetfulness.

It is reported that Ibn Abbaas (may God be pleased with him) used to drink a mixture of powdered frankincense, water and sugar on an empty stomach. Someone once complained to Anaas (ra) about a weak memory, and Anaas replied, “Soak frankincense overnight in water, and drink the solution in the morning on an empty stomach, for it benefits the memory.”

A 'tea' can also be made by tying the frankincense resin in a small cloth like a peice of muslin, and adding it to boiling water. Let the water simmer for around 5 min before extracting the frankincense and allowing the tea to cool down before drinking.

The application of this remedy has a simple and clear reasoning. Mild amnesia, forgetfulness or a weak memory of past experiences, events or words results from a corrupt humour somewhere in the body. This corrupt humour affects different parts of the brain, causing ill-disposition, particularly in people with cold, damp temperaments. This condition produces defective memory and thus blocks the brain’s natural ability to retain messages in sequence or to store information.

Frankincense, which contains the opposite attributes, thus helps to repair and balance the bodily humours. This helps ultimately to remove the blockage and restore the memory. Amongst the other numerous benefits of frankincense; it aids the treatment of tuberculosis, stomach ache and diarrhoea, and it helps the digestion, helps expel wind, relieve eye sores / refreshes the eyes, treats infections and helps heal cuts and bruises when used in a bandage. It also helps treat a speech impediment (both tongue-tie and stuttering). Burning frankincense helps repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.

Both the resin and the oil can be purchased online.
My recommendation is food-grade Hojari frankincense which can be purchased here - http://freeyoursenses.co.uk/#/yellow-hojari/4555599604

You can find more information about frankincense here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankincense, including on how frankincense is graded - http://freeyoursenses.co.uk/#/grading/4555298751
Here is a link to the article written in Urdu on Frankincense by the Tibb e Nabawi Google Group.

A weak memory may also sometimes be due to dryness and can be overcome by increasing the intake of water and other fresh, clean, pure fluids.
Ibn Abbaas (ra) said that brushing one's teeth with Miswaak has ten benefits; one of which is that it clears the brain. Other commentators on the Hadith also contend that using Miswaak sharpens the memory and attunes the senses. You can find out more about the great benefits of using Miswaak by clicking here.

It is recommended to use Miswaak before conducting Wudhu for each of the five daily Prayers, particularly when waking up at the time of Faj'r.

Another very beneficial treatment for weak memory is cupping;
In his book 'Al Afrad', Al-Darqotni related that Abdullah ibn Omar quoted the Blessed Messenger of
Allah (pbuh) as saying, "Cupping increases one's memory and wisdom. Apply cupping in the name of

Allah, but do not apply it on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday; while Monday is the best."

Treating Forgetfulness and Weak Memory with Ruqya.

For strengthening the memory and progressing in Islamic Knowledge, the following verse of the Holy Qur’an should be recited (in Arabic) 20 times everyday after the Faj’r Salaah insha’Allah;

“My Lord! Expand for me my breast. Ease my task for me. Remove the knot [impediment] from my speech so that they may understand what I say.”
[20:25-28]

In Islamic Medicine, cupping is used for the treatment of diseases of the blood, and as a therapeutic measure. Several prophetic sayings are related in Sahih al Bukhari and in the collection of Ibn Maja, amongst others with regards to the benefits of cupping. Ibn Abbaas also narrated that the beloved Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Blessed is a servant who practices cupping. It cleanses the blood, dries out internal inflammations and brightens ones vision.” He (phuh) also said, “Cupping (Hijaama)
is one of the best medicines.”

Hadhrat Ali (ra) narrated that it was Archangel Jibraeel (as) that prescribed cupping to the beloved Messenger of Allah (pbuh). Such is the healing power of cupping that not only did Jibraeel (as) advice the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) to use it and command his Ummah to use it, but all the Angels that he (pbuh) met during his travels throughout the Heavens on the night of Meeraj also reminded him to use it and prescribe it. Cupping has deep historical roots stretching back more than 3500 years in China, Eygpt and the Middle East.

Cupping nowadays is extensively practiced in Chinese Medicine. The procedure involves heating up a glass cup shaped like a miniature fish bowl with a flame. The warm glass cup is then placed on a fleshy part of the body (normally the back) and the skin, blood vessels and muscle underneath the cup is drawn upwards into it by the vacuum created inside the cup. This leaves a characteristic round mark on the skin after the cup is removed. This mark usually fades after a couple of days.

The benefits of Cupping therapy are endless and due to its stimulating and strengthening effects and cupping has been used successfully to treat bowel conditions (IBS, constipation and diarrhoea), headaches, back pain, arthritis, period pain, injuries, asthma, cellulite, fatigue (ME), anaemia, depression and emotional problems, atrophy, sciatica, common cold and flu, skin problems, blood pressure, menstruation problems in women, weight loss, and more.

Administering cupping between the shoulder blades helps cure shoulder pain, pains in the upper arms and pains of the throat. Cupping over the two posterior neck veins helps treat tremors of the head, and other conditions of the head, for example, of the face, teeth, ears, eyes, nose and throat.

Applying cupping under the chin helps reduce face pain, toothache, and throat pain and helps to cleanse the head when applied at the proper time. Cupping on top of the foot helps against inflammation of the testes, leg ulcers and eases suppressed menses. Cupping behind the knee helps in the treatment of chronic abscesses, haemorrhoids and septic ulcers of the leg and foot. Cupping on the inner thighs is a good treatment for irritation of the back, gout and piles. Cupping can also help ease high blood pressure.

In his book ‘Al Afraad’, al Daroqni related that Abdullah ibn Omar quoted the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) as saying, “Cupping increases ones memory and wisdom, apply cupping in the name of Allah (swt), but do not apply it on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Monday is the best.”

What is Hijama, How it Hijama Works, Cupping, What is Cupping

Hijama (Arabic: حجامة‎ lit. "sucking") is the Arabic name in traditional medicine for wet cupping, where blood is drawn by vacuum from a small skin incision for therapeutic purposes. It is reported that the Islamic prophet Muhammad said, "Indeed the best of remedies you have is hijama (cupping) and if there was something excellent to be used as a remedy then it is hijama (cupping)" (Al Jauziyah & Abdullah, 2003).

Procedure

Hijama can be performed almost anywhere on the body, often at the site of an ache or pain in order to ease or alleviate it. A more conservative approach warns against over use of cupping and suggests only that six optimal points on the body are all that is required to "clean" the entire cardiovascular system: The back of the head, two shoulders corresponding to the acupuncture heart position, the tail or small of the back, and the two inner ankles.
The location is first shaved, if necessary, to ensure a tight seal with the cup. The mouth of a cup (metal, glass and plastic cups are generally used, although traditionally horns were used) is placed on the skin at the site chosen for hijama. Then a tight seal is created. The traditional method is to burn a small piece of paper or cotton inside the vessel, so that the mouth of the cup clings to the skin. Some practitioners now use a machine instead of the manual cups. Some practitioners still strictly adhere to the Prophetic method with the use of fire, both for sterility and the benefits or properties from the element of fire itself that may be present. The cup is left to cling to the skin for a few minutes, then it is lifted off and several very small incisions are made in the skin. The cup is then put back as it was before until the flow of blood subsides.[citation needed]
Hijama is considered a form of energy medicine because it has been claimed to unclog the meridians in the body, and is viewed by some practitioners as a cure that can alleviate black magic and possession.

Scientific Studies

In March 2011 three systematic reviews were analyzed for the effectivness of wet and dry cupping in which two out of three showed some evidence for effectiveness of cupping for pain. Favorable effects were shown when wet cupping was combined with adjuvant conventional treatments. However, one of the three reviews showed little effectivess for cupping for stroke rehabilitation. Few randomized control trials have been done to examine the effectiveness of cupping and many studies published are of low quality or have many limitations.
A study by Ahmed and colleagues was carried out in order to evaluate the efficiency of cupping [hijama] therapy in management of rheumatoid arthritis. To sum up they concluded cupping [hijama] combined with conventional medical therapy has several advantages. It significantly reduces the laboratory markers of disease activity and it modulates the immune cellular conditions particularly of innate immune response NK cell % and adaptive cellular immune response SIL-20 (Ahmed, Madbouly, Maklad $ Abu-Shady, 2005)
Using a pre-post research design, 70 patients with chronic tension or migraine headache were treated with wet-cupping. Three primary outcome measures were considered at the baseline and 3 months following treatment: headache severity, days of headache per month, and use of medication. Results suggest that, compared to the baseline, mean headache severity decreased by 66% following wet-cupping treatment. Treated patients also experienced the equivalent of 12.6 fewer days of headache per month. We conclude that wet-cupping leads to clinical relevant benefits for primary care patients with headache. Possible mechanisms of wet-cupping's efficacy, as well as directions for future research are discussed.
There is some evidence that wet-cupping is effective in the treatment of nonspecific low back pain.
Studies have also shown some evidence that it may be effective in the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia. For the treatment of cancer, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that hijama confers any health benefits.

Bloodletting Comparison

While often used interchangeably, hijama and bloodletting are not similar techniques. Bloodletting opens veins and bleeds patients, whereas hijama draws blood to a specific location with suction and extracts it by perforating the skin. "A study by Bilal and colleagues was aimed by comparing and analyzing the difference between the compositions of blood samples, obtained through cupping (hijama) technique versus blood drawn intravenously. There was a significant change in almost all parameters tested as compared to the venous blood samples to scientifically evaluate the efficacy of the techniques used in cupping (hijama) i.e. suction and removal of blood."
(Bilal, ALam Khan, Ahmed & Afroz, 2011)
Practitioners

Cupping [hijama] remained a constant in professional medical treatment throughout Europe. It was practiced by such famous physicians as Galen (131-200AD), Paracelsus 1493-1541) and Ambroise Pare (1509–90). Cupping [hijama] was also practiced by other practitioners including barbers, surgeons and bath house attendants. (Chirali, 1999)

Safety

Cupping has no major side effects aside from minimal discomfort due to the method of application of skin cuts to the patient. Other possible minor side effects that may occur is feeling of slight light headedness post therapy, this is similar to the sensation one feels after having blood taken when donating blood. Cupping [hijama] encourages blood flow to the cupped region (hyperemia), one may therefore feel warmer and hotter as a result of vasodilatation taking place and slight sweating may occur. Pregnant women or menstruating women, cancer (metastatic) patients and patients with bone fractures or muscle spasms are also believed to be contra-indicated. Some practitioners suggest that a low risk of blood clotting is possible and therefore walking and staying awake after a procedure is advisable.

Month of Saban | Amal Shaban | Wazaif for Shaban | Shaban Amliyat

Sha`ban is one of the meritorious months for which we find particular instructions in the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad . It is reported in authentic ahadith that Prophet Muhammad , used to fast most of the month in Sha`ban. These fasts are supererogatory (nafl) and well deserving of reward, for Sha`ban is the month immediately preceding the month of Ramadan. The Prophet  mentioned in a hadith, "Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha`ban is my month and Ramadan is the month of the Nation".
1. The blessed companion Anas , reports that Prophet Muhammad , was asked, "Which fast is the most meritorious after the fasts of Ramadan?" He replied, "Fasts of Sha`ban in honor of Ramadan."
2. The blessed companion Usama ibn Zaid , reports that he asked Prophet Muhammad : "Messenger of Allah, I have seen you fasting in the month of Sha`ban so frequently that I have never seen you fasting in any other month." Prophet Muhammad , replied: "That (Sha`ban) is a month between Rajab and Ramadan which is neglected by many people. And it is a month in which an account of the deeds (of human beings) is presented before the Lord of the universe, so, I wish that my deeds be presented at a time when I am in a state of fasting."
3. Ummul Mu'mineen `Aishah (r), says, "Prophet Muhammad , used to fast the whole of Sha`ban. I said to him, 'Messenger of Allah, is Sha`ban your favorite month for fasting?' He said, 'In this month Allah prescribes the list of the persons dying this year. Therefore, I like that my death comes when I am in a state of fasting.’"
4. In another Tradition she says, "Prophet Muhammad , would sometimes begin to fast continuously until we thought he would not stop fasting, and sometimes he used to stop fasting until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah fasting a complete month, except the month of Ramadan, and I have never seen him fasting in a month more frequently than he did in Sha`ban."
5. In another report she says, "I never saw the Messenger of Allah, , fasting in a month so profusely as he did in the month of Sha`ban. He used to fast in that month leaving only a few days, rather, he used to fast almost the whole of the month."
6. Ummul-Mu'mineen Umm Salamah (r), says: "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah  fasting for two months continuously except in the months of Sha`ban and Ramadan."
These reports indicate that fasting in the month of Sha`ban, though not obligatory, is so meritorious that Prophet Muhammad did not like to miss it.

The Night of Bara`ah (nisf Sha`ban)
Another significant feature of the month of Sha`ban is that it consists of a night which is termed in Shari`ah as "Laylatul-bara`ah" (The night of freedom from Fire). This is the night occurring between 14th and 15th day of Sha`ban. Traditions of Prophet Muhammad , prove that it is a meritorious night in which the people of the earth are attended by special Divine Mercy. We will be posting much more about this blessed night shortly.

What should be done in this night?
On the Holy Night of 15th Shaban, after Maghrib or Isha prayer it is traditional practice to read Surah Yasin three times, and after each time, read a special du`a with the following intentions:
1st reading the niyyat (intention) for should be for Long Life.
2nd reading the niyyat (intention) should be for Protection from Calamities.
3rd Reading the niyyat (intention) should be for not being needy to anyone except Allah.

It is very necessary that just as others observe this night, you observe it. To make an invitation to feed people on that night, to remember Allah (swt) and to remember His Prophet , and to fast its day and pray its night, will be rewarded for that night and for whoever observes it.
In order to observe the Night of Bara`ah, one should remain awake on this night as much as possible. If someone has the opportunity, he or she should spend the whole night in worship and prayer. However, if one cannot do so for one reason or another, he can select a considerable portion of the night, preferably of the second half of it for this purpose, and should perform the following acts of worship:
praying Salat ul-Khair, which consists of 100 raka`ts, in each raka`t reciting Sura al-Fatiha and 10 Surat al-Ikhlas. To complete the prayer one recites 1000 Sura al-Ikhlas.
The Night of Bara`ah is a night in which special blessings are directed towards the Muslims. Therefore, this night should be spent in total submission to Allah Almighty, and one should refrain from all those activities which may displease Allah.

Fast of the 15th Sha`ban
On the day immediately following the Night of Bara`ah, i.e. the 15th of Sha`ban, it is mustahabb (advisable) to keep fast. Prophet Muhammad  is reported to have recommended this fast emphatically. A large number of the predecessors (salaf) of the Ummah have been observing the fast of the 15th of Sha`ban.
Therefore, it is advisable to fast the 15th of Sha`ban as an optional (nafl) fast. One can also keep a fast of qada (make-up) on this day and it is hoped that he can also benefit from the merits of this fast.

Sha'ban: Do's, and Dont's By Mufti Taqi Usmani

Sha'ban is one of the meritorious months for which we find some particular instructions in the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam. It is reported in the authentic ahadith that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast most of the month in Sha'ban. These fasts were not obligatory on him but Sha'ban is the month immediately preceding the month of Ramadan. Therefore, some preparatory measures are suggested by Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam. Some of these are given below:

1. The blessed companion Anas, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, was asked, "Which fast is the most meritorious after the fasts of Ramadan?" He replied, "Fasts of Shaban in honor of Ramadan."

2. The blessed companion Usama ibn Zaid, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that he asked Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam: "Messenger of Allah, I have seen you fasting in the month of Sha'ban so frequently that I have never seen you fasting in any other month." Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, replied: "That (Sha'ban) is a month between Rajab and Ramadan which is neglected by many people. And it is a month in which an account of the deeds (of human beings) is presented before the Lord of the universe, so, I wish that my deeds be presented at a time when I am in a state of fasting."

3. Ummul Mu'mineen 'Aishah, Radi-Allahu anha, says, "Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast the whole of Sha'ban. I said to him, 'Messenger of Allah, is Sha'ban your most favorite month for fasting?' He said, 'In this month Allah prescribes the list of the persons dying this year. Therefore, I like that my death comes when I am in a state of fasting."

4. In another Tradition she says, "Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, would sometimes begin to fast continuously until we thought he would not stop fasting, and sometimes he used to stop fasting until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, fasting a complete month, except the month of Ramadan, and I have never seen him fasting in a month more frequently than he did in Sha'ban."

5. In another report she says, "I never saw the Messenger of Allah, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, fasting in a month so profusely as he did in the month of Sha'ban. He used to fast in that month leaving only a few days, rather, he used to fast almost the whole of the month."

6. Ummul-Mu'mineen Umm Salamah, Radi-Allahu anha, says: "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah fasting for two months continuously except in the months of Sha'ban and Ramadan."

These reports indicate that fasting in the month of Sha'ban, though not obligatory, is so meritorious that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, did not like to miss it.

But it should be kept in mind that the fasts of Sha'ban are for those persons only who are capable of keeping them without causing deficiency in the obligatory fasts of Ramadan. Therefore, if one fears that after fasting in Sha'ban, he will lose strength or freshness for the fasts of Ramadan and will not be able to fast in it with freshness, he should not fast in Sha'ban, because the fasts of Ramadan, being obligatory, are more important than the optional fasts of Sha'ban. That is why Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, himself has forbidden the Muslims from fasting one or two days immediately before the commencement of Ramadan. The blessed Companion Abu Hurairah, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, to have said, "Do not fast after the first half of the month of Sha'ban is gone."

According to another report Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam has said: "Do not precede the month of Ramadan with one or two fasts."

The essence of the above-quoted ahadith is that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, himself used to fast most of the month of Sha'ban, because he had no fear of developing weakness or weariness before the commencement of Ramadan. As for others, he ordered them not to fast after the 15th of Sha'ban for the fear that they would lose their strength and freshness before Ramadan starts, and would not be able to welcome the month of Ramadan with enthusiasm.

The Night of Bara'ah

Another significant feature of the month of Sha'ban is that it consists of a night which is termed in Shariah as "Laylatul-bara'ah" (The night of freedom from Fire). This is the night occurring between 14th and 15th day of Sha'ban. There are certain traditions of Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, to prove that it is a meritorious night in which the people of the earth are attended by special Divine mercy. Some of these traditions are quoted as follows:

1. Ummul-Mu'mineen 'Aishah, Radi-Allahu anha, is reported to have said, "Once Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, performed the Salah of the night (Tahajjud) and made a very long Sajdah until I feared that he had passed away. When I saw this, I rose (from my bed) and moved his thumb (to ascertain whether he is alive). The thumb moved, and I returned (to my place). Then I heard him saying in Sajdah: 'I seek refuge of Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge of Your pleasure from Your annoyance, and I seek Your refuge from Yourself. I cannot praise You as fully as You deserve. You are exactly as You have defined Yourself.' Thereafter, when he raised his head from Sajdah and finished his salah, he said to me: 'Aishah, did you think that the Prophet has betrayed you?' I said, 'No, O Prophet of Allah, but I was afraid that your soul has been taken away because your Sajdah was very long.' He asked me, 'Do you know which night is this?' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'This is the night of the half of Sha'ban. Allah Almighty looks upon His slaves in this night and forgives those who seek forgiveness and bestows His mercy upon those who pray for mercy but keeps those who have malice (against a Muslim) as they were before, (and does not forgive them unless they relieve themselves from malice).'"

2. In another Tradition Sayyidah' Aishah, Radi-Allahu anha, has reported that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said, "Allah Almighty descends (in a manner He best knows it) in the night occurring in the middle of Sha'ban and forgives a large number of people more than the number of the fibers on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb."

Kalb was a big tribe the members of which had a very large number of sheep. Therefore, the last sentence of the hadith indicates the big number of the people who are forgiven in this night by Allah Almighty.

3. In yet another Tradition, she has reported Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, to have said, "This is the middle Night of Sha'ban. Allah frees in it a large number of the people from Fire, more than the number of the hair growing on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb. But He does not even look at a person who associates partners with Allah, or at a person who nourishes malice in his heart (against someone), or at a person who cuts off the ties of kinship, or at a man who leaves his clothes extending beyond his ankles (as a sign of pride), or at a person who disobeys his parents, or at a person who has a habit of drinking wine."

4. Sayyidna Mu'adh ibn Jabal, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said: "Allah Almighty looks upon all those created by Him in the middle Night of Sha'ban and forgives all those created by Him, except the one who associates partners with Him or the one who has malice in his heart (against a Muslim)".

Although the chain of narrators of some of these traditions suffers with some minor technical defects, yet when all these traditions are combined together, it becomes clear that this night has some well founded merits, and observing this night as a sacred night is not a baseless concoction as envisaged by some modern scholars who, on the basis of these minor defects, have totally rejected to give any special importance to this night. In fact, some of these traditions have been held by some scholars of hadith as authentic and the defects in the chain of some others have been treated by them as minor technical defects which, according to the science of hadith, are curable by the variety of their ways of narration. That is why the elders of the ummah have constantly been observing this night as a night of special merits and have been spending it in worship and prayers.

What Should be Done in this Night?

In order to observe the Night of Bara'ah, one should remain awakened in this night as much as he can. If someone has better opportunities, he should spend the whole night in worship and prayer. However, if one cannot do so for one reason or another, he can select a considerable portion of the night, preferably of the second half of it for this purpose, and should perform the following acts of worship:

(a) Salah. Salah is the most preferable act to be performed in this night. There is no particular number of Rak'at but preferably it should not be less than eight. It is also advisable that each part of the Salah like qiyam, rukoo' and sajdah should be longer than normal. The longest surahs of the Holy Qur'an one remembers by heart should be recited in the Salah of this night. If someone does not remember the long surahs, he can also recite several short surahs in one rak'ah.

(b) Tilawa. The recitation of the Holy Qur'an is another form of worship, very beneficent in this night. After performing Salah, or at any other time, one should recite as much of the Holy Qur'an as he can.

(c) Dhikr. One should also perform dhikr (recitation of the name of Allah) in this night. Particularly the following dhikr is very useful:

One should recite Salah (durood) on Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, as many times as he can. The dhikr can also be recited while walking, lying on bed and during other hours of work or leisure.

(d) Dua. The best benefit one can draw from the blessings of this night is prayers and supplications. It is hoped that all the prayers in this night will be accepted by our Lord, insha-Allah. Prayer itself is an 'Ibadah, and Allah Almighty gives reward on each prayer along with the fulfillment of the supplicator's need. Even if the purpose prayed for is not achieved, one cannot be deprived of the reward of the prayer which is sometimes more precious than the mundane benefits one strives for. The prayers and supplications also strengthen one's relation with Allah Almighty, which is the main purpose of all kinds and forms of worship.

One can pray for whatever purpose he wishes. But the best supplications are the ones made by Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam. These are so comprehensive and all-encompassing prayers that all the human needs, of this world and the Hereafter, are fully covered in the eloquent expressions used in them. Actually, most of the prophetic prayers are so profound that human imagination can hardly match their greatness.

Several books in various languages are available which provide these prophetic prayers, and one should pray to Allah Almighty in accordance with them, whether by reciting their original Arabic text or by rendering their sense in one's own language.

(e) There are some people who cannot perform any additional Salah or recitations for any reason, like illness or weakness or being engaged in some other necessary activities. Such people also should not deprive themselves completely of the blessings of this night. They should observe the following acts:

(i) To perform the Salah of Maghrib, 'Isha' and Fajr with Jama'ah in the mosque, or in their homes in case of their being sick.

(ii) They should keep reciting the dhikr, particularly the one mentioned in para (c) above, in whatever condition they are until they sleep.

(iii) They should pray to Allah for their forgiveness and for their other objectives. One can do so even when he is in his bed.

(f) The women during their periods cannot perform salah, nor can they recite the Qur'an, but they can recite any dhikr, tasbeeh, durood sharif and can pray to Allah for whatever purpose they like in whatever language they wish. They can also recite the Arabic prayers mentioned in the Qur'an or in the hadith with the intention of supplication (and not with the intention of recitation).

(g) According to a hadith, which is relatively less authentic, Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, went in this night to the graveyard of Baqi' where he prayed for the Muslims buried there. On this basis, some of the fuqaha hold it as mustahabb (advisable) in this night to go to the graveyard of the Muslims and recite Fatihah or any other part of the Qur'an, and pray for the dead. But this act is neither obligatory nor should it be performed as regularly as an obligatory act.

What Should Not be Done in This Night

1. As mentioned earlier, the Night of Bara'ah is a night in which special blessings are directed towards the Muslims. Therefore, this night should be spent in total submission to Allah Almighty, and one should refrain from all those activities, which may displease Allah. Although it is always incumbent upon every Muslim to abstain from sins, yet this abstinence becomes all the more necessary in such nights, because committing sins in this night will amount to responding to divine blessings with disobedience and felony. Such an arrogant attitude can invite nothing but the wrath of Allah. Therefore, one should strictly abstain from all the sins, particularly from those mentioned in the Hadith No. 3 quoted earlier in this article, because these sins make one devoid of the blessings of this night.

2. In this night some people indulge in some activities which they regard as necessary for the celebration of the Night of Bara'ah, like cooking some special type of meal, or illuminating houses or mosques, or improvised structures. All such activities are not only baseless and innovated in the later days by ignorant people, but in some cases they are pure imitation of some rituals performed by non-Muslim communities. Such imitation in itself is a sin; performing it in a blessed night like the Night of Bara'ah makes it worse. Muslims should strictly abstain from all such activities.

3. Some people spend this night in holding religious meetings and delivering long speeches. Such activities are also not advisable, because these acts can easily be performed in other nights. This night requires one to devote himself for the pure acts of worship only.

4. The acts of worship like Salah, recitation of the Qur'an and dhikr should be performed in this night individually, not collectively. The Nafl Salah should not be performed in Jama'ah, nor should the Muslims arrange gatherings in the mosques in order to celebrate the night in a collective manner.

On the contrary, this night is meant for worshipping Allah in solitude. It is the time to enjoy the direct contact with the Lord of the Universe, and to devote one's attention to Him and Him alone. These are the precious hours of the night in which nobody should intervene between one and his Lord, and one should turn to Allah with total concentration, not disturbed or intermitted by any one else.

That is why Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, observed the acts of worship in this night in total seclusion, not accompanied by anyone, not even by his favorite life companion Sayyidah 'Aishah, Radi-Allahu anha, and that is why all forms of the optional worship (Nafl Ibadah), are advised by him to be done in individual, not in collective manner.

Fast of the 15th Sha'ban

On the day immediately following the Night of Bara'ah, i.e. the 15th of Sha'ban, it is mustahabb (advisable) to keep fast. Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, is reported to have recommended this fast emphatically. Although the scholars of hadith have some doubts in the authenticity of this report, yet it is mentioned earlier that the fasts of the first half of Sha'ban have special merits and Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast most of the days in Sha'ban. Moreover, a large number of the elders (salaf) of the Ummah have been observing the fast of the 15th of Sha'ban. This constant practice indicates that they have accepted the relevant hadith as authentic.

Therefore, it is advisable to fast the 15th of Sha'ban as an optional (nafl) fast. One can also keep a fast of qada on this day and it is hoped that he can also benefit from the merits of this fast.
